Lighthouse Kids

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.’ – Proverbs 22:6.

Some of the greatest mysteries of God’s kingdom find beautiful expression in the eyes, ears and words of children. We have a desire to embrace every child with the same tenderness and joy that Jesus does.

Children and youth are an important part of God’s family and ours. You’ll find our youngsters involved in a variety of roles during the service. We also have Family Worship Bags filled with crayons, Bible coloring pages, and children’s Bible storybooks for families with younger children. We encourage families to consider worshiping together whenever possible. However, we recognize that this may not be the best choice for every family on every Sunday, and so we have Sunday School available for children in grades K-5 during the sermon.  An adult leader will meet children in the lobby after the children’s message and escort them to class. This will be available each week except for the first Sunday of the month, when children will join us for the duration of our communion service. A staffed nursery is always available for nursing mothers and children up to 4 years.

We also invite children to be a big part of Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day, and other seasonal celebrations. Summertime brings a wonderful week of Vacation Bible School, and camp opportunities for grades 4th and up.

COME LIKE A CHILD ...

The National Review in 1995 carried these doctrinal nuggets from children, written by real students and unretouched:

  • In the first book of the Bible, Guiness's, God got tired of creating the world, so He took the Sabbath off.
  • Noah's wife was called Joan of Ark.
  • Samson slayed the Philistines with the axe of the apostles.
  • The First Commandment was when Eve told Adam to eat the apple.
  • The Fifth Commandment is to humor thy father and mother.
  • The Seventh Commandment is thou shalt not admit adultery.
  • Moses died before he ever reached Canada.
  • The greatest miracle in the Bible is when Joshua told his son to stand still and he obeyed him.
  • Solomon, one of David's sons, had 300 wives and 700 porcupines.
  • Jesus enunciated the Golden Rule, which says to do one to others before they do one to you.
  • The epistles were the wives of the apostles.
  • A Christian should have only one wife. This is called monotony.
